Ajoriya is an independent digital newsroom rooted in Birgunj and the Tarai-Madhes, reporting with context, clarity, empathy, and journalistic integrity.
The name Ajoriya means enlightenment—light that arrives gradually, illuminating what was once overlooked. Journalism, at its best, helps people see their communities, institutions, and realities more clearly.
Ajoriya was founded by four professionals from journalism, broadcasting, community advocacy, and business management who shared a common concern: some of Nepal’s most important stories were not being told with the depth, care, and understanding they deserved. Too often, the Tarai-Madhes appear in national media only during moments of crisis, conflict, or political upheaval. Communities are reduced to headlines, while the larger stories shaping their lives remain underreported.
We believe the borderland is not the edge of Nepal. It is one of its centres of population, trade, culture, and democratic transformation.
Our journalism focuses on the intersections of power, identity, environment, governance, and everyday life in Tarai-Madhes and beyond. We produce long-form reporting, investigations, explainers, visual storytelling, and community-centred journalism that help readers understand not only what happened, but why it matters.
Ajoriya publishes in Nepali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, and English because language should never stand between a story and the people it belongs to.
Everything we publish is guided by four editorial principles:
- Context: We go deep before we go fast.
- Clarity: We make complex issues accessible without oversimplifying them.
- Empathy: We centre people, not just institutions.
- Integrity: We remain accountable to the public.
Ajoriya is published by Anjoriya Media Pvt. Ltd. and operates independently of political parties, governments, and commercial interests.
From Birgunj, for everyone who believes overlooked stories deserve serious journalism.
